I am sure you have all heard this well known Christmas song but did you now that the first published version dates back to the 1780’s in a children’s book and the current version of this carol was published by Frederick Austin in 1909.
It is believed that it started as a children’s memory game with each child in turn having to sing the previous verses and adding the next verse.
If you were to give your true love all the gifts in the song then at todays prices it would cost you in excess of $40,000. One very expensive Christmas.
And why am I writing about this?
Most people have friends and family around over this period and there is time to reflect on the past year and what the new year will bring. Having people visiting can make you realise that it is time to up size to a new family home. The twelve days carol can relate to the stages required to build a custom home. It can be repetitive, requires a good memory and plenty of patience.
So what are the typical steps on this journey?
Step one – you decide its time for a new custom home.
Step two – you make list of needs and wants for your new home. This should help identify what is important in the finish, style and design. You may also have two choices, should you develop on your current location or search for a new block?
Step three - with the list completed you should have come to three important decisions, style, budget and the location.
Step four - You go forth in search a new block or if you are developing at your current property a plan for alternative accommodation while building.
Step five – You’ve found the perfect block or confirmed that your current location is already perfect.
Step six – Time to find a custom home builder, you search the internet, read reviews and create a short list.
Step seven – make contact with two or more Perth builders, explain what you want along with your budget etc. Wait for replies, find that they did not really understand what you wanted, did not appear to make the best use of the block or didn’t consider your budget.
Step eight – Give up and start looking for a Perth home designer, search the internet, read reviews or ask friends and acquaintances if they could recommend someone. Create a short list of Designers
Step ten - make contact with two or more Perth designers, explain what you want along with your budget etc. Wait for replies, find that they did not really understand what you wanted, did not appear to make the best use of the block or didn’t consider your budget.
