As you may have seen or heard in the media, the State Government has announced the next phase of planning reforms, to be introduced to WA Parliament later this year.
What does this meen for you?
- Property developers will be able to circumvent "anti-development" councils and access new infrastructure funding.
- The State Government has announced an $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund, to assist developers with funding for essential infrastructure.
- The long awaited changes to the Residential Design Codes State Planning Policy (the R-Codes)
- The government will also introduce a 120-day limit on assessments.
At the same time there are plans for Local Government Reform
These changes are designed to provide improved transparency and consistency across local governments and Councils. Some of the key changes will include the number of Councilors to be based on the local government population, mandating streaming and recording of Council meetings, and public registers of local government financial activities such as contracts and grants.
